Synapse CV
For cath lab angiogram procedural images, DUS/PVL, Echocardiograms (Anything that shows up under Heart/Vasc tab on Epic Chart Review, except EKGs)
Open Synapse CV (username should be your U number, password is heart1). Almost every time you open it on a new day it will close down and “update” and have you log in again.
Copy and paste the patient’s MRN into the MRN search bar and click “Enter” (If a MRN begins with 0's, remove the 0's and just paste the non-zero digits)
Select the correct patient that pops up (sometimes it’ll have the same patient listed multiple times- you can choose any of them).
It will bring you to the page with all of the patient’s exams since they’ve been a patient at UNC Rex. Double click the correct test (angiogram, DUS, Echo, etc.) with the date you’re looking for.
The images should pop up. Wait for them to completely download (when they’re downloaded the blue outline around each image will disappear) before you export.
Click File >> Export Study >> To DICOM Format >> select Hard Disk and Media Viewer on the next screen >> delete all patient info on next screen.
The only time you would click CD/DVD after Dicom Format is if you need to burn a disk…luckily most sponsors have now realized we are in the 21st century so this method of sending images is becoming outdated….otherwise you’ll need to burn the disc (need a CD-DVD drive or use one of the two computers located behind the front desk)… label and put in CD jacket, send out to CoreLab via Fedex.
It should pop up with your Downloads folder opened. Create a folder for each study, patient, time point, and test so it’s easy to find (ex: ECG Belt images >> M100500001 >> Baseline >> Echo >> then save it under Echo) and then select that folder. Click “Save.”
A box should pop up in Synapse and you want to check “Copy as is.” Sometimes the box will hide behind the images so you have to drag windows around to search for it. Click “Next”.
It should then transfer! Then go into whichever program you need and upload the images by navigating to your Downloads folder and selecting the folder (ex: you would select “Echo”).
